At Wandsworth Preparatory School, there are many opportunities for students to learn and grow outside of the classroom. These experiences are an important part of the school’s provision and are designed to complement and enrich the academic programme.
Extra-curricular activities
Clubs
One way students can learn and grow outside of the classroom is through participation in extra-curricular activities. These activities, which are mainly run after school, give students the opportunity to pursue their interests and passions, and to develop new skills and hobbies. Some examples of extra-curricular activities offered at Wandsworth Preparatory School include sports, drama, art and film, just to name a few. You can find out more about our extra-curricular activities here.
Individual music lessons
At Wandsworth Prep we offer a range of extra-curricular one to one music lessons where children can learn an instrument or indeed singing. Complementing our whole class curriculum music lessons, peripatetic teachers visit our school throughout the week as we offer a range of instrumental lessons. We currently have children learning to play the piano, violin, ukulele, guitar, recorder and flute, as well as some taking individual singing lessons.
School trips and Residentials
School trips
School trips allow students to explore new environments and learn about the world around them in a hands-on and immersive way. Some examples of school trips and excursions that may be offered at Wandsworth Preparatory School include visits to local museums such as the Imperial War Museum and the British Museum, outings to restaurants such as Pizza Express to study hygiene and food prep or something as simple as a walk round the local area to study our local community and the world around us.
Residentials
From Year 3 onwards, our pupils attend an annual Residential trip. This is a wonderful opportunity and throughout all the years of experience taking children away, it is undeniable how much they grow in confidence as they experience outdoor learning away from the school environment. We believe that overnight stays, whether 2 nights or 4 nights, has the fantastic benefit of being away from home in the company of their peers, allowing them to gain independence and, most importantly, for the experience to be memorable and enjoyable. Year 3 & 4 have a 3-day, 2-night adventure at a UK adventure centre and Year 5 & 6 have a 5-day, 4-night adventure of their own, travelling across to France to immerse themselves in a different culture and language for the duration of their trip.
Onsite Workshops and Visiting Speakers
Community Service
At Wandsworth Preparatory School, students are also encouraged to give back to their community through participation in community service projects. These projects involve fundraising for our chosen partner charities or participating in environmental initiatives. By participating in community service, students learn the value of helping others and become responsible and active members of their community.
Outdoor Learning
Finally, students at Wandsworth Preparatory School have the opportunity to learn and grow through outdoor educational experiences. Forest School focuses on experiential learning and personal and social development. These outdoor education experiences are designed to challenge students physically and mentally, while also teaching them valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience. You can find out more about Forest School here.
