I can think of a few songs with the theme of moving up/on in them, but I went for M People’s ‘Moving On Up’ – an absolute classic. From Reception to year 5, we experienced our very own ‘Moving on Up’ morning where every child got to meet their teacher for the next academic year. This is, of course, so important, allowing children and teachers to become familiar with each other, to discuss class expectations and exciting information about topics for next year’s learning. When I met with the year 2s (who I will be teaching English in September), we played some fun ice-breaker games and they even wrote a little piece telling me all about themselves. Finn told me, “I liked meeting my new teachers.” He also revealed, “I want to be a singer when I grow up!” Good lad. The children were even treated to a balloon artist workshop to add to the celebration of meeting their new teacher! Fabulous stuff.
